Astros star suffers gruesome ankle injury while stepping on home plate

The three-time All-Star has had a challenging year, especially from a health perspective. He has been limited to just 48 games this season due to a right hand injury that kept him out of the lineup for nearly four months.

Alvarez has still been productive in 2025 when healthy, batting .273 with a .794 OPS. But now the 28-year-old is dealing with an injury to his lower body, which is especially concerning given his 6-foot-4, 237-pound frame.

At 81-69 on the season, the Astros currently hold the No. 3 wild-card spot in the American League. With the playoffs set to start soon, Houston has some reason for major concern with its righty slugger right now.
