Former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and executive Kristin Cabot’s relationship is still being dissected two months after the pair went viral at a Coldplay concert.
According to a new report, the former coworkers were not having an affair at the time they were caught getting cozy on a Jumbotron.
“Kristin and Andy had an excellent working relationship, a great friendship. There was no affair,” a source close to Cabot shared with People in a report published Tuesday, September 23. “It was inappropriate to be hugging your boss at a concert, and she accepts full responsibility for it. But the scandal, the downfall, the loss of the job — all of that is unfair.”
On July 19, a spokesperson for Astronomer confirmed to Us Weekly that Byron had officially resigned from his position as CEO after he was caught wrapping his arms around Cabot until the camera panned over.
At that point, he dropped to the ground to hide as Cabot turned and shielded her face.
“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,” Astronomer said in a statement to Us. “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”
As for Cabot, a spokesperson for Astronomer confirmed to Us on July 24 that she too had resigned from her role as chief people officer.
According to People’s source, both Byron and Cabot attended the Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts on July 16 with a group of friends.
The amount of media attention, the insider said, had an impact on many more people than just Byron and Cabot.
“It is important to note how inappropriately mislabeled Kristin has been — as a homewrecker,” the source said. “It’s unfathomable to witness what has happened, and how devastating it can be, for not just individuals, but entire families. All I can think of is that this could happen to any of us at any time. I think all of the misinformation has been the most mind-blowing to witness.”
The insider added, “These are real people and real families. The way people have taken a lot of enjoyment at their expense, it’s hard to see.”
Us has reached out to Astronomer for comment. Neither Cabot nor Byron have publicly commented on the saga.
Kristin reportedly filed for divorce from her husband, Andrew Cabot, on August 13.
A spokesperson for Andrew later told People on September 8 that Kristin and her estranged husband “were privately and amicably separated several weeks before the Coldplay concert.”
The spokesperson added that the pair’s “decision to divorce was already underway prior to that evening. Now that the divorce filing is public, Andrew hopes this provides respectful closure to speculation and allows his family the privacy they’ve always valued.”
Moving forward, Kristin continues to keep a low profile as she focuses on raising her children.
