AgenciesStone near Zubeen’s cremation site turns place of worship Guwahati: The Assam Government has capped the visiting hours for the cremation site of late singer Zubeen Garg at Hatimura, Kamarkuchi, from 6 am to 10 pm daily.The Assam Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore has received crucial information from Singapore authorities and is expecting CCTV footage and witness statements within the next 10 days.According to an order from the state government, “No visitors will be permitted beyond this time. The government has also enforced a complete ban on alcohol consumption, sale, or intoxicated entry within and around the premises to maintain the site’s piousness and public decorum. “Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said, “We have spoken to the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metropolitan) and residents of Sonapur and have advised that no intoxicated persons or individuals involved in the sale of alcohol should be allowed at Zubeen Kshetra. If found, strict measures will be initiated against them.”The order further states that no person under the influence of alcohol or any form of intoxication shall be permitted to enter or remain within the cremation ground. Additionally, the consumption, serving, or distribution of any kind of intoxicating liquor within the premises or its vicinity has been strictly prohibited.Live EventsThe administration has also clarified that any individual or establishment violating these restrictions will face legal action under relevant provisions of the Public Health Act, Food Safety and Standards Act, and other applicable laws.CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, who led the two-member team to Singapore, said that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has assured full cooperation under legal protocols and will share essential evidence, including CCTV visuals and statements from witnesses, to aid the ongoing probe.He said, “On the 20th, we met with the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore and provided all necessary details about the case. We also sought legal assistance from Singapore authorities to support our investigation. The next day, on the 21st, we had a meeting with a five-member team of Singapore Police, where we discussed multiple aspects of the investigation and shared our timeline for submitting the final report."Gupta added that the Assam SIT has already questioned around 60 individuals in India and is now focusing on examining digital evidence and financial transactions related to the case. “ We have also appealed to anyone who communicated with Zubeen Garg through WhatsApp or other platforms in the week before his death to come forward voluntarily. Every detail can help us uncover the truth."He further confirmed that Garima Saikia Garg, the late singer’s wife, visited the CID headquarters in Guwahati on Friday to record her statement as part of the ongoing investigation. Garg died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19. There are protests and demands seeking justice for Garg.With several organisations wanting the government not to cap the visitors' timing, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly defended the move and said that timing has to be followed for there are other people residing in the vicinity and they too must be disturbed .
