Asrani, born Govardhan Asrani, died in Mumbai at around 4 pm on October 20 after a prolonged illness. The actor's last rites were also performed in the city at the Santacruz crematorium. The veteran's death was confirmed by his nephew Anand Asrani. Hours before his passing, veteran actor-director Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, took to Instagram to wish his fans a Happy Diwali. The timing of the post, mere hours before his sudden demise, has left fans and the film fraternity in shock. Originally from Jaipur, Rajasthan, Asrani was born on January 1, 1941. Asrani graduated from Rajasthan College, Jaipur, and worked as a voice artist at All India Radio to pay for his education. He arrived in Mumbai in 1962 to become an actor. RIP Asrani Speaking to ETimes, Asrani's manager, Mr. Thiba confirmed the shocking news and revealed details of the veteran star's final moments. He said, "He was not feeling well and was admitted to Arogya Hospital four days ago due to breathing issues. He passed away at around 3 PM today. His last rites were performed at 8 PM today. The family is back home now… very sad." On the work front, He was last seen in the JioHostar series The Trial Season 2 opposite Kajol. The veteran actor had worked in over 350 films in his career and even worked as a lead actor in Gujarati films during the 1970s and 1980s.
