Ashwina Amavasya falls in the Krishna Paksha of the Ashwina month as per Hindu Panchang. This is also known as the last day of Shradh Karma. Even the ritual of Tarpan comes to an end on this day. Ashwina Amavasya is popularly known as Sarva Pitru Amavasya or Mahalaya Amavasya. Additionally, it also goes by the name of Pitra Visarjani Amavasya. This day holds great importance and significance as performing the Pitru rituals today can help our ancestors attain liberation and peace. Here are the rituals performed on this auspicious occasion:Take a bath in a pond, sacred river or a lake if that is possible around you. Offer Argh to Surya Devta (Sun God) and sacrifice to your ancestors.Light a Diya in the evening and place it at the main entrance. Keep Poori and other sweet stuff also alongside the Diya.
