Ashanti NPP group blasts MP Kwaku Boateng over ‘alien’ remark against Dr Bawumia

The Ashanti Regional Communications Team of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB) campaign has strongly condemned what it described as “divisive and disrespectful remarks” made by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, against Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Asante Boateng, during a live discussion on Adom TV, reportedly referred to Dr Bawumia as an “alien” and “a stranger” within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) — comments that have provoked outrage among supporters of the Vice President. In a statement issued and signed by Victor Osei Poku, Coordinating Head of the Ashanti Regional DMB Communications Team, the group described the MP’s outburst as “unfortunate, misguided, and unbecoming of a senior party member.” “Such utterances are false, divisive, and a betrayal of the very principles of unity and meritocracy upon which the New Patriotic Party was built,” the statement read. The team argued that Asante Boateng’s comments stemmed from “personal frustration rather than a genuine reflection of the facts,” adding that his remarks risked undermining internal cohesion within the party. The statement reminded the legislator that the NPP Constitution, particularly Articles 2(4), 3(1), and 13(3)(1&2) — promotes inclusiveness, equality, and fair participation, not tribal or exclusionary politics. It also pointed out that internal disagreements within the NPP predate Dr Bawumia’s entry into frontline politics, citing the 1998 Sunyani primaries, the 2007 resignation of Alan Kyerematen, and the 2015 suspensions of some national executives as examples. Highlighting Dr Bawumia’s extensive record of service, the team listed his contributions as a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, two-time presidential running mate (2008, 2012), and Vice President since 2017. The statement further recalled his crucial role during the 2013 Presidential Election Petition, describing his testimony before the Supreme Court as a “milestone in Ghana’s democratic journey.” Dombo family reaffirms unwavering support for Dr Bawumia According to the release, Dr Bawumia’s rise within the NPP “epitomises the party’s culture of rewarding competence, loyalty, and service — not lineage or political gatekeeping.” “The New Patriotic Party remains a democratic and inclusive institution built on the principles of freedom, opportunity, and merit,” the statement emphasised. “We urge Hon. Asante Boateng and all party faithful to uphold unity, respect, and decorum in public discourse, especially as we work collectively toward victory in the 2028 general elections.” The Ashanti Regional DMB Communications Team reiterated its full confidence in Dr Bawumia’s leadership, describing him as “a symbol of the NPP’s progress, modernity, and inclusiveness.”
