His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene has pledged his support for efforts to enhance infrastructure and restore standards at the Komfo Anokye Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The initiative was presented to the Asantehene by Dr. David Benjamin Sampson, Principal of the college and a proud alumnus, who led a delegation to the Manhyia Palace to seek his blessing and guidance. Dr. Sampson expressed concern about the deteriorating state of the college’s infrastructure, noting that since its establishment in 1955, very little improvement has taken place. He said the limited facilities have made it difficult for the institution to obtain accreditation for its Bachelor of Science programmes. “This school trained me, but looking at its current state, things are not as they should be. The college was established in 1965, yet there has been very little improvement, especially in terms of infrastructure. Because of these challenges, we have not been able to secure BSc accreditation,” he said. Dr. Sampson explained that the government has plans to introduce specialised programmes in Kumasi, but the college must first undergo major infrastructural development to qualify. He added that he could not embark on these reforms without first receiving Otumfuo’s blessing, given the institution’s deep ties to Asanteman. In his response, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed appreciation for the update, describing the college as a vital part of Asanteman’s educational legacy. He urged the new leadership to submit a detailed proposal to his office for consideration. “I thank you for reminding me about the school. It is very important to me. Put everything in writing and present it to my office. I bless you in your work, and I know you will accomplish great things,” Asantehene stated. The engagement took place during the 8th Awukudae Festival of the year, held at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Also in attendance were representatives from St. Louis College of Education, the Bright and Pure Holiness Ministry, and several business entities, including the Asanteman Cold Store Association, Mantrack Company, KASSAB Trading and Restaurant, and Westec Security Ghana Ltd. The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital delegation, together with their partners from the Mayo Clinic Global Health Programme and a team of UK-based cardiologists, also participated, alongside the Asanteman Europe Association.
