Asantehemaa’s Funeral: Banks, Restaurants, and Transport Allowed to Operate on September 18  But Must Close by 8 PM

As Kumasi prepares for the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the funeral committee has announced that some businesses will be allowed to operate during the day on Thursday, September 18, 2025.

According to a statement signed by Acting Chief of Staff, Ambassador Nana Effah Apenteng, the following businesses are exempted from the suspension of activities:

Restaurants

Transport operators

However, all other businesses, schools, and markets in Kumasi are expected to remain closed during the day as part of cultural traditions.

The public is also being reminded that there will be movement restrictions throughout the day and night of September 18. But essential service providers, such as:

Electricity Company of Ghana

Ghana Water Company

Fire Service

Ambulance Service

Ghana Health Servicewill be allowed to operate normally.

Despite the daytime exemptions, the committee made it clear that by 8:00 PM, all businesses including banks, restaurants, and transport services must shut down to honor Asante customs.

The funeral of Nana Konadu Yiadom III is expected to bring thousands of people to Kumasi, with major traditional and cultural ceremonies planned across the city.
