Asamankese: Nine Sustain Injuries As Violence Mars Mass Family Burial

Nine persons have sustained various degrees of injuries after violence marred a planned mass burial for members of a family at Asamankese in the Eastern Region. Three Police Officers were among the injured on Sunday, October 26, 2025. A police statement reported that the violence emanated from the burial of the dead in the royal cemetery. Police Officers Injury Three police officers reportedly got injured after facing fierce resistance in the arrests of some suspects from some agitated youth who pelted stones and other objects after it got intelligence that some people were conveying guns and cartridges into a room near the Chief’s palace. The attack also resulted in damage to the windscreen and side glass of two Police vehicles. Six Others Injured The youth are also said to have blocked the Asamankese-Akroso junction and around the chief’s palace while firing guns indiscriminately. Six individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to the Asamankese Government Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. The police managed to arrest four suspects who have been identified as Isaac Ntim Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam and Buaben Richard. They further retrieved one single-barreled gun, 84 live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses and two knives. The police also reported that calm has since returned to the Asamankese township. “The Eastern South Regional Police Command has intensified Patrols and surveillance in the town to maintain law and order.
