Art Alive at the AKG, Nickel City Comic Con, Superhero Food Drive

Eddie Munster will be here. So will Darth Maul. They’ll be joined by a host of other pop-culture favorites and artists from television, movies and wrestling for Nickel City Comic Con: Fall Edition on Oct. 4-5 in the Buffalo Convention Center (153 Franklin St.).
Butch Patrick (“The Munsters”) and Ray Park (“Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace,” “X-Men”) join actor Eric Roberts, WWE wrestler The Bogeyman and a “Friday the 13th” anniversary reunion with Adrienne King, Amy Steel and Lauren-Marie Taylor, Warrington Gillette, Derek Mears and Harry Manfredini at the two-day event. And there’s more: Bill Duke (“Predator,” “Commando”), Kristy Swanson (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Gates McFadden and John De Lancie (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), the Trailer Park Boys and voice actors from the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle” cartoon series.
See the DeLorean Time Machine, the Ecto-1 and a screen-used Munster Koach. There will be panel discussions, pop-exhibits for “Star Trek” and “Ghostbusters,” a cosplay contest and plenty of vendors.

Art Alive. 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 outside the AKG Art Museum, 1285 Elmwood Ave.
The name “Art Alive” says it all about this annual event where the AKG Great Lawn will be filled with living representations of famous works of arts from the museum’s collection. Students, community groups, organizations, families and individuals will create these replicas – or tableaus – by using props and real people. There will be music, art activities. A special category for these tableaus celebrates the AKG new exhibit “Yayoi Kusama: One with Eternity” with a category dedicated to works by Kusama in the museum’s collection. More than $4,000 in prizes will be awarded.
Buffalo Olde Brewery Oktoberfest Weekend. Thursday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 28 at Buffalo Olde Brewery, 1221 E. Lovejoy St.
The season of Oktoberfest continues at this Lovejoy district brewery, located at the intersection of East Lovejoy and North Ogden streets. Traditional brewery-made German specials including bratwurst and schnitzel will be available, as will BOB’s newest beer, BOBfest, a Vienna Lager that celebrates German culture. “Unscripted.” 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Road Less Traveled Theater, 456 Main St.
Every Wednesday night during a run of a play presented by Road Less Traveled Productions stage, you can count on a unique experience in “Unscripted.” That’s when improv artists create a new play on the same stage and set of the RLTP show that is currently running. That means every week you get a one-of-a-kind experience. Weekly resident cast members including improv artists Todd Benzin, Don Gervasi, Annie Moor and Jimmie Byrd will be there with a different guest each Wednesday. Here’s the October schedule of guests: Isaiah Brown on Oct. 1, David Lundy on Oct. 8 and David Marciniak on Oct. 15. Singer-songwriter Tyler Westcott, frontman of the band Folkfaces, founded this weekend festival back in 2017 and has annually filled the lineup with regional and national acts performing a variety of musical styles. In addition to vendors, workshops, art and food, there will be three stages showcasing performances by more than 30 musical acts including Ohio River Valley string band troubadours The Tillers, New Orleans’ Sally Baby’s Silver Dollars, gospel group The Flying Clouds of South Carolina, and cult funk-rockers Igor & The Red Elvises. “Young Frankenstein,” Oct. 2-4 in Shea’s 710 Theatre, 710 Main St.
The hilarious Mel Brooks classic movie parody takes the 710 stage in a production from Starring Buffalo, a theatrical group that has local students working alongside professionals including Broadway stars. Joining the local cast for this production are Tony award-nominee A.J. Shively, plus Lindsay Nicole Chambers and Brandon Espinoza. Directing is Starring Buffalo Artistic Director Drew Fornarola. Superhero Food Drive. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 outside Lexington Co-op, 1678 Hertel Ave.
The fifth annual food drive to benefit FeedMore WNY will again be hosted by attorney William Lorenz Jr., also known as “Buffalo’s Best Batman.” He’ll be joined by other costumed volunteers who will handle donations and pose for free photos. Lorenz, who started the event during the pandemic and has since raised more than 7,500 pounds of nonperishable donations, said he has felt compelled to run the food drive for the fifth time because of federal anti-hunger program cuts.
