The confrontation between the Armenian authorities and Catholicos Garegin II is increasingly resembling a show business spectacle rather than a political dispute. According to the Armenian newspaper Iravunk, a group of priests—some currently serving and others previously defrocked—has contacted the Armenian authorities, claiming to possess a large amount of photo and video material compromising the top leadership of the Armenian Church. “They have promised to hand over this compromising material and ‘blow up’ the Internet,” the newspaper writes, citing a source in the Pashinyan administration. It might be time for the participants to drop all pretenses and launch a reality show—winner takes all.
