This week marks a pivotal moment for Embark Studios at ARC Raiders launches. It’s a new IP, a third-person extraction shooter, and it comes out tomorrow, precariously between the launches of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6. It’s not an enviable position to a new multiplayer game launch, but according to CEO Patrick Söderlund, it’s more important that the team gets ARC Raiders off the starting block and into the race. Söderlund shared this sentiment in an interview with The Game Business this week, as shared by Eurogamer. There, Söderlund shared that he doesn’t feel there is going to be a good or bad time for ARC Raiders to come out. Regardless of how people criticize the timing, Söderlund feels the most important part is the game must simply come out: There are easily arguments to both sides. One of them, Söderlund is probably familiar with as a former CEO of DICE, when Titanfall 2 launched between Battlefield One and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, which many agree affected the level of attention the otherwise stellar FPS got during its lifetime. However, there’s also an argument to be made that ARC Raiders is quite different from Call of Duty and Battlefield and might not have to compete as closely with them as Titanfall did. Either way, ARC Raiders launches this week. I recently got a chance to play it in multiplayer and came away feeling it offers a solid extraction shooter experience. As it launches, stay tuned to the ARC Raiders topic for more updates and news.
