In a shocking turn of events, popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has passed away at the age of 52 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. Condolences have been pouring in on social media since Friday. Music maestro AR Rahman joined others in mourning the tragic loss, sharing a heartfelt tweet to express his sympathies to the family. AR Rahman Mourns Zubeen Garg’s Shocking Demise Rahman tweeted, “Along with all your fans, family and friends, we will miss you deeply, Zubeen. Rest in peace.” Reacting to the tweet, a fan commented, “A truly heartbreaking day… we’ve lost our legendary singer and Dunith Wellalage’s father today. May they rest in peace.” Another wrote, “We lost our diamond, we lost our legend, Zubeen da.” An emotional netizen called it a “great loss” for Assamese, Bengali, Hindi music industries and the world of music. PM Modi, Himanta Biswa Offer Condolences On Friday, PM Narendra Modi tweeted, “Shocked by the sudden demise of popular singer Zubeen Garg. He will be remembered for his rich contribution to music. Om Shanti.” Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called Zubeen one of state’s most beloved sons. He wrote, “Today Assam lost one of its favourite sons. I am in a loss of words to describe what Zubeen meant for Assam. He has gone too early, this was not an age to go. Zubeen’s voice had an unmatched ability to energise people and his music spoke directly to our minds and souls. He has left a void that will never be filled.” He said that future generations would remember Zubeen as a pillar of Assam’s culture, and that his creations would continue to inspire many upcoming artists.
