Apple’s liquid glass iOS 26 is out – here are top features and why you need to install it now

iOS 26 new features: Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26, introducing a major refresh across iPhone devices and the updates are now available for download and can be installed over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update, as per a report. With the same gestures used to take a screenshot, you can now tap into more information from apps, highlight parts of the screen for a quick search, or ask ChatGPT for context and explanations.Live Translation is now built into Messages, FaceTime, Phone, and even AirPods. Messages can automatically translate texts and your replies, FaceTime can display translated captions during calls, and Phone calls can be translated and read out loud in real time with an accompanying transcript. AirPods users can hear live translations during in-person conversations.Shortcuts now support intelligent actions powered by Apple Intelligence, including tools like Writing Tools and Image Playground. Genmoji inspired by people in your Photos library can now be customized with different hairstyles, facial expressions, and more. ChatGPT can help generate styles like oil paintings or anime, or you can describe your own.Improved app experiences in iOS 26The Camera app gets a cleaner interface, with faster access to capture modes and new lens-cleaning suggestions on iPhone 15 and newer. Users with AirPods 4 or AirPods Pro 2 and later can now snap photos or record video using a new stem press gesture.The Photos app is redesigned with separate tabs for Library and Collections, a new customizable layout, and event recognition for concerts and sports.In the Phone app, Apple introduces a unified layout for favorites, recents, and voicemail. The app helps you discover new games, track scores, challenge friends, and see what others are playing.Family safety and accessibility in iOS 26Communication Requests allow kids to ask for parental approval before talking to new contacts. Child accounts are easier to set up, and apps can now provide age-appropriate experiences using your child’s age range. Communication Safety now works with live FaceTime and Shared Albums to blur sensitive content.The App Store now features Accessibility Nutrition Labels, and new tools like Accessibility Reader and expanded braille support make iOS and iPadOS more inclusive.Other additions in iOS 26The new Preview app also arrives on iPhone for PDF editing and scanning.
