Apple Launches Free Sports App in Germany: Results, Live Scores, No Ads

Apple now also brings its free Sports app to Germany – a slim alternative to extensive sports apps. We looked at what the ad-free iPhone application for Bundesliga, Champions League and Co.

Apple Sports starts in Germany

The application is free and for all iPhone models with iOS 17.2 or higher in App Store available. According to Apple, the company works with various data service providers to ensure seconds. The app is designed for speed and simplicity and offers a personalized experience in which the favorite and teams of users are in the foreground.

Advertising -free alternative with a clear focus

The app indicates live results from the Bundesliga to Formula 1 and dispenses with advertisements. Unlike many other commercial sports apps, Apple Sports deliberately focuses on the essentials. So users should not expect a functional sports app. Apple has focused on quick availability of the information (basically primarily results and intermediate stands) and simple operation.

Personalization is the focus

With Apple Sports, fans can follow their favorite teams and leagues. Events and encounters according to leagues are grouped on the homepage. The app relies on these personalizable views, in which the leagues and teams selected by the user are in the foreground. Games and upcoming encounters are shown on an overview page, and details such as team statistics or lineups can be called up.

The app supports live activities, which shows current scores directly on the iPhone lock screen or the Apple Watch. Functional scope also contains widgets that can be used not only on the iPhone, but also on the iPad or Mac. The teams and leagues that have been selected as favorites in Apple Sports are then automatically displayed on the other Apple platforms.

Comprehensive league coverage

The app covers a wide range of sports. In addition to the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga, the European club competitions in football, the popular leagues in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal as well as international competitions such as NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB and Formula 1 are supported. College sports in the USA as well as tennis and basketball leagues for women are also integrated.

The first user impressions are mixed

The first reactions of German users show a shared picture, there is hardly any criticism, but Apple users probably expected more, i.e. more detailed statistics and more comprehensive reporting.
