Apple is hosting a Christmas tree drawing competition, inviting iPad users to submit their creations for the opportunity to have it projected onto an iconic London building. It follows the projection of drawings created by David Hockney, which were displayed on the building in 2023. The company says 24 winning submissions will be projected onto Battersea Power Station, home to its UK headquarters, alongside commissions from notable figures like Stephen Fry … Battersea Power Station London’s Battersea Power Station is one of the most famous buildings in the world, largely thanks to it featuring on the cover of the Pink Floyd album Animals. After its decommissioning way back in 1975, it sat empty and unused until 2014. A great many potential projects were proposed and then abandoned before it was finally agreed to develop it into a combination of office space, restaurants, shops and entertainment spaces. Part of the negotiations for the development included part-funding an extension to the Tube (underground transit) network to create a new station there. In 2016, Apple announced that it would adopt the building as the home of its new UK campus. The company now occupies the vast majority of the office space within the power station around a huge atrium. Perhaps to ensure people don’t mistake it for the separate Apple Store, the lobby to the impressive office space doesn’t have either the name or the logo of the company. Your Tree on Battersea Apple announced the Your Tree on Battersea competition today, with a closing date of November 23. Apple invites everyone across the UK to express their creativity on iPad in honour of Your Tree on Battersea, a new Christmas tree drawing competition. Hosted by British comedian and personality Munya Chawawa, this marks the first time the British public are invited to design a Christmas tree on iPad and submit their creation for the opportunity to have it projected onto Battersea Power Station’s river-facing chimneys and wash towers. The winning public entries will be projected alongside commissioned designs contributed from established artists and notable figures, such as Sir Stephen Fry and David Shrigley OBE […] The competition opens today and submissions will be accepted until 23 November at midnight. The Christmas trees that will be projected onto Battersea Power Station will include 24 winning public submissions. On December 4 at 5 p.m., Apple will publicly unveil the winning submissions and artist contributions on Battersea Power Station’s chimneys and wash towers. The company provides a downloadable template, and all 39 UK Apple stores have special 30-minute Today at Apple sessions specifically designed to help you create and submit your drawing. Unfortunately for those outside the country, entries are restricted to UK residents. Children can enter, but the submission must be made by a parent or guardian.
