Charlie Kirk critics app privacy breach: An app created to track people accused of criticizing conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been taken offline after a serious privacy breach exposed its own users’ personal information, as per a report.Cancel the Hate App Launched After Charlie Kirk’s AssassinationThe app, called “Cancel the Hate”, launched shortly after Kirk’s assassination on September 10 and encouraged people to anonymously report “offenders” who spoke against him, as per a SAN report. The platform asked users to submit names, locations, and even employers of those accused of “hateful” behavior, with a particular focus on medical professionals, public officials, teachers, business owners, entertainers, and influencers, according to the report.Cancel the Hate Data Breach Exposes Emails and Phone NumbersWhile its website promised that users submitting reports would remain anonymous, a security flaw in the connected social media-style app exposed email addresses, phone numbers, and other personal details, as per the SAN report. The vulnerability was uncovered by a researcher known as “BobDaHacker,” who provided SAN with a sample of leaked data from 142 users, including SAN’s own test account.The flaw even allowed accounts to be deleted without authorization. Sheppard previously claimed the platform had received more than 38,000 reports in just 30 hours after its launch. He also suggested the app could help “better organize and focus on outing the folks that need to be outed,” as quoted in the report.But backlash was swift.
