‘Anything can happen’: An Australian K-pop star’s big win is inspiring students at her former schools

When Roseanne Park told teachers at her high school in year 10 that she was leaving to pursue a music career in Korea, they were surprised.

Twelve years later, the once self-described “shy” and “normal” Melbourne teen has become global K-pop sensation Rosé, whose hit song has had almost 2 billion YouTube views, and is inspiring the next crop of local stars.

Her single, APT, with Bruno Mars, was named Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York on Monday. She dedicated the award to her 16-year-old self.

“Someone asked me the other day what my fear in life was,” she said as more than 5.5 million viewers watched on.
