Anti-hijack drill tests security readiness at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport on Monday conducted a full-scale Anti-Hijack Mock Exercise (AHME), bringing together multiple security and enforcement agencies to evaluate preparedness for an aviation security crisis.

The simulation recreated a hijack situation and tested the coordinated response of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Mangaluru City Police, intelligence agencies, airline representatives, and airport personnel. Conducted in real time, the exercise assessed existing crisis management protocols, inter-agency coordination, and the ability of teams to respond effectively under stress.

Observers stationed across the airport monitored response times, decision-making, and crisis communication during the drill.

Review meeting and feedback

Following the exercise, a review meeting was chaired by Mithun H.N., Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mangaluru City. Feedback from participating agencies was recorded, and areas for improvement were discussed to further strengthen operational efficiency.

Airport officials noted that the exercise reinforced the airport’s ability to safeguard passengers and staff during emergencies. “Such proactive measures are critical to maintaining high standards of aviation security and instilling public confidence in air travel,” a senior airport officer said.

Routine preparedness under national norms

Officials highlighted that anti-hijack drills form part of routine preparedness measures mandated under national aviation security regulations. These exercises ensure that security agencies, law enforcement, and intelligence teams remain vigilant and capable of responding swiftly to evolving threats.

The airport authorities expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all stakeholders, underscoring that coordinated efforts between security forces and local agencies are vital to addressing complex security challenges in the aviation sector.

Conclusion: Strengthening aviation security confidence

The anti-hijack mock exercise served as both a test and a demonstration of the airport’s readiness to handle emergencies. By simulating high-stakes scenarios, officials were able to identify strengths and areas needing improvement, ensuring passenger safety remains a top priority.

With enhanced coordination between agencies, Mangaluru International Airport reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining international standards of security preparedness and public confidence in air travel.
