Anthony Hopkins shared that his wife, Stella Arroyave, who is an antiques dealer from Colombia, once suggested that he might have autism. The reason for his wife’s suspicion was his obsession with numbers, details, order, and memorisation. The 87-year-old actor revealed that he isn’t concerned or bothered with such “labels”. “I’m obsessed with numbers. I’m obsessed with detail. I like everything in order. And memorising,” he told The Sunday Times in an interview. He revealed that his “obsession” led his wife to suggest that he could have Asperger’s syndrome, and added, “I didn’t know what the hell she was talking about. I don’t even believe it.” The interview is part of a press run for his upcoming memoir, We Did OK, Kid, which is set to be released on Tuesday, November 4. Asperger’s is a former diagnosis now considered to be a part of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). According to the National Institute of Mental Health, ASD “is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave.” The Silence of the Lambs actor, however, dismissed the idea of a late-life diagnosis. Anthony Hopkins Doesn’t “Care” About Labels “Well, I guess I’m cynical because it’s all nonsense. It’s all rubbish. ADHD, OCD, Asperger’s, blah, blah, blah. Oh God, it’s called living,” he said, adding, “It’s just being a human being, full of tangled webs and mysteries and stuff that’s in us. Full of warts and grime and craziness, it’s the human condition.” Anthony shared that he doesn’t care about these things, saying, “All these labels. I mean, who cares? But now it’s fashion. And you know, people do this.” What’s Next For Anthony Hopkins?
