Anna University engineering student ends life near Tiruchi

A 21-year-old engineering student of Anna University in Tiruchi allegedly ended his life at Mandaiyur in neighbouring Pudukottai district on Saturday night. The police identified the student as K. Mareeshwaran of Mamsapuram in Virudhunagar district. He was a student of third-year Computer Science and Engineering at the university.

The Government Railway Police, Tiruchi, recovered the body and sent it to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi for autopsy. The railway police sources said the exact cause behind the student resorting to the extreme step of ending his life was being investigated. A few persons were being questioned by the railway police in connection with the suicide. Mareeswaran had been staying in a mansion near the Anna University and pursuing the engineering course.

A note purportedly left behind by the student had been found. Further investigation is under way.
