Angel Reese wasn’t exactly subtle about the late-season drama between her and the Chicago Sky when she released episode one of the second season of her podcast “Unapologetically Angel” on Thursday. The title of the episode is “Exit interview my way,” an obvious reference to Reese not participating in voluntary exit interviews with the Sky in September.

Reese voiced her frustrations with Chicago’s roster construction during the season, leading the Sky to suspend the second-year forward for “statements detrimental to the team.” Reese wanted Chicago to be more aggressive in adding elite talent, believing the front office was too willing to heavily rely on players like Courtney Vandersloot, who were beyond their prime.
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese responded to a scathing critique of WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, who said Caitlin Clark and her should be “grateful” for the league’s platform.

The Sky finished the season tied with the Dallas Wings for the WNBA’s worst record at 10-34. Vandersloot’s ACL tear and struggles to adjust quickly enough to the scheme of first-year head coach Tyler Marsh contributed to the lackluster product in Chicago.
During her podcast, Reese said she altered her mindset during the season, choosing to focus on herself, believing that was the best way to help the Sky on the court.
“I’m just really grateful being able to just continue to believe in myself,” Reese said. “I think this is the first season where I really put myself first. I was like, ‘Forget everything else.’ Like, I have to put myself first for my own mental sake. Like I’ve gone through everything and seen everything.
“So this is the first time I really, like sat and was like, ‘Okay, like you have to put yourself first this time and just continue to work, because nobody’s gonna want it more than I do.’ And knowing what I can bring when I’m at my best self, to the team, was really important.”

Reese noted her pride at making her second All-Star appearance, arguing that she made great individual progress during her second season in the WNBA. With the Sky non-competitive, Reese focused on gaining confidence in her shooting game to help her career, something she hopes to continue in Year 3.
