Android phone users given game-changing update to daily feature

People with an Android phone, whether it's a Google Pixel, a Samsung, or another brand, have been told that a feature they probably use daily has had a much-needed upgrade. Experts reveal that thanks to a quicker process, people using their phone's wallet can add more cards in just one simple step . According to Android Authority : " Google Wallet is simplifying the mechanism for adding new debit or credit cards to your collection. Although the process previously required you to either enter the details manually or capture an image of the digits, cards that support contactless payments can now be added instantly by tapping on the area around the NFC reader on your phone ." NFC stands for near field communication, and you've probably used it before without realising. It is used when you pay for a coffee, a spot of shopping, or your lunch by simply tapping your phone against a contactless card reader. When you do this, signals travel via NFC to confirm the payment - meaning there's no need to have your physical card with you . This new feature has been in testing since at least April of this year. It was included in the latest Google Play services update released earlier this week, which also introduced support for Android 16’s Live Updates for flights and events. In addition to the faster card-adding option, Google Wallet recently introduced support for storing Play Points, and a feature that automatically displays relevant tickets or passes on your phone as you approach your destination. If you're worried about the safety of adding cards to your digital wallet, experts say you don't need to be as long as you tick the right boxes. Tech experts at NordVPN , explained: "From the user’s perspective, NFC technology can also be taken advantage of by bad actors. "If your phone is stolen, it could be used to make contactless payments without your authorisation, unless you have already set up a payment verification process (like a biometric scan). "Most devices have limits on how much money can be spent via contactless payment, but the risk of any financial losses is still something to be aware of." It added: "Despite the dangers of theft and misuse, NFC is still a relatively secure payment option, compared to other methods like chip-and-pin payments." Along with the new option to add cards using NFC, Android experts have also shared that Google is testing its updated Material 3 Expressive design language in the Google Wallet app. This design tweak introduces a subtle background tint and makes the button for manually entering card details more visually prominent. Are you excited for the update? Let us know what you think about it and whether this is a feature you use often or never at all.
