Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf married in 2001 and had just two guests at their stripped-down wedding. The tennis icons, who this week celebrated their 24th anniversary , purposefully chose the low-key ceremony, which featured just two attendees - their respective mothers. However, their goal for a quiet occasion was alarmingly shattered by the appearance of a team of gardeners. Agassi first wed actress Brooke Shields and was with her from 1997 to 1999, while Graf dated racing driver Michael Bartels. It was only after the American star's split from Shields that his relationship with German ace Graf ignited, with the two beginning a romance in 1999 and tying the knot two years later. Tennis rebel Agassi shed light on their chaotic wedding day in his 2009 memoir, Open. He wrote: “Stefanie and I, barefoot and wearing jeans, stand before the judge in the courtyard. The judge runs through his legal rigamarole and Stefanie and I are just about to say I do, when a team of landscapers arrive." He added: "I run outside and ask them to please turn off their lawnmowers and leaf blowers for five minutes so that we can get married. They apologise. One holds a finger over his lips." Continuing, he wrote: “By the power vested in me, the judge says, and at last, at long last, with two mothers and three landscapers looking on, Steffi Graf becomes Stefanie Agassi.” Graf retired from tennis in 1999 while Agassi carried on playing up until 2006, with the duo often touted as two of the game's finest ever players. While the couple have two children together, which keeps them occupied, following a series of investments and business ventures, 2025 marked a new chapter for Agassi. First, he made his debut as a co-commentator for the BBC at Wimbledon, providing commentary during the men's semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz. Agassi also took on the role as captain of Team World at the 2025 Laver Cup, taking over from fellow tennis legend John McEnroe. The tournament, which matches a European squad against representatives from across the globe, witnessed Agassi join forces with deputy captain Pat Rafter to steer a lineup headlined by Fritz and Alex de Minaur. Under Agassi's guidance, Team World snatched back the title, beating Team Europe. Agassi has also strengthened his connections to the thriving world of racket sports through a major investment in pickleball and padel, with the help of Graf. In June, he participated in a £15million Series A funding round for Ballers, a start-up launching premium indoor sports and entertainment venues across the US. Graf has also been bitten by the pickleball bug. The sport's body itself claims to be the USA's fastest-growing sporting activity. Graf has been spotted playing it at high-profile events in recent years, even opening up on how the game, which is played on a smaller court to tennis, has taken her back to her competitive days. “It’s such a fast game, things can happen so quick you don’t have the time to kind of ease into a match,” Graf said via CNN . “You don’t know the strengths and weaknesses of your opponents and it was just so much unknown.” She added: "You can’t take the competitive out of us. It just tends to get that way." Agassi has recently taken to social media to mark their anniversary. Agassi shared a photo of the duo posing with their Wimbledon trophies from 1992, nine years before they tied the knot. He looks majorly different in the snap with his once iconic long blond hair dominating the photo, a far cry from the shaved head he has today. While he is fitted into a classical tux, in classic Agassi fashion, his look is complete with a dangly earring. Graf wears a regal ball gown, accessorised with pearls. Next to the iconic photo, Agassi also shared a picture from now with the happy couple smiling, captioning it: "24 years with this wonderful woman, Happy Anniversary Steffi, you are my unicorn!"
