Anambra guber: Police arrest political thug, cultist, recover firearms, others

The Anambra State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected cultist and political thug, Onyeaka Odogwu, popularly known as Red Angel, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election in the state scheduled for November 8, 2025. In a statement issued in Awka on Sunday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the 29-year-old suspect was arrested on October 24, 2025, around 11:30 a.m. during an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) in Enugu-Ukwu. Recovered from the suspect were two pump-action guns, two English double-barrel guns, three live cartridges, red cult regalia, and five caps three black and two red bearing inscriptions linked to the Vikings Confraternity. Ikenga said during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and admitted involvement in political thuggery. He added, “Following his confession, the suspect in the early hours of October 26, 2025, led SPACS operatives to their armoury at Omor, where the mentioned exhibits were recovered. All recovered items have been documented as evidence, while investigations are ongoing to track and apprehend other gang members and associates.” The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the upcoming election is free from violence. He warned that the police would not tolerate any activities from cult groups, armed gangs, or political thugs capable of disrupting public order. Orutugu also urged parents, community leaders, and youth groups to caution young people against joining cults, assuring Ndi Anambra of adequate security deployment across all local government areas before, during, and after the election.
