Amy Poehler Confused by ‘Fourth Wing’ Rebecca Yarros Book Plot

Fourth Wing by author Rebecca Yarros has been an insanely popular book for the past two years, but Amy Poehler is just now finding out about it. When Maya Hawke stopped by the Tuesday, November 4, episode of Poehler’s “Good Hang With Amy Poehler” podcast, the Stranger Things actress, 27, tried to explain the plot of the first book in the Empyrean series to the Saturday Night Live alum, 54. “Recently, I got a lot of joy from the Fourth Wing book series,” Hawke began as Poehler told her to “standby” as she put on her glasses and began researching the novels on her laptop. “It’s fantasy. It’s like romantasy fantasy,” Hawke continued. “Dragon college basically. A dragon war college. And that was my escapism of choice.” 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Poehler was instantly confused, stopping Hawke to interject, “Sorry, you said so many things just now. OK, so say again, it’s called …” to which Hawke replied, “Fourth Wing is the name of the first book.” “And it is a dragon college?” Poehler asked, with Hawke clarifying, “It’s a war college for dragon riders.” Poehler then prompted Hawke to delve deeper into the parts of the novel that she enjoyed, inquiring, “What do you like about the Fourth Wing?” “Well, there’s incredible hardcore training sequences,” Hawke noted as Poehler exclaimed, “Yes, dragons!” “There’s a very hot guy who’s like, ‘You have to live so that I can live.’ And so he’s like, ‘Do sit-ups,’ and she’s like, ‘OK,’” Hawke added, referring to main characters Xaden Riorson and Violet Sorrengail. “It really works for me is all I can say.” Poehler was obviously on board with the plot details, encouraging Hawke with a “here we go” and her agreement that the scenes sounded “hot.” However, Poehler misunderstood one aspect, assuming that the college students fight against the dragons in the novel rather than fight alongside them. “Do sit-ups! You gotta have a strong core if you’re gonna fight those dragons!” she quipped. Fourth Wing follows Violet, a dragon rider who attends Basgiath War College. There, she meets Xaden, her rival turned love interest who trains her to fight for her life. Yarros, 44, published Fourth Wing in April 2023 followed by the sequels Iron Flame in October 2023 and Onyx Storm in January. She has yet to announce the release date or title of the fourth book in the series.
