Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was not fined for an expletive-ridden celebration during Detroit’s 38-30 win over the Baltimore Ravens that was caught on a hot mic.
However, the Lions didn’t have a clean week in that department as safety Brian Branch was fined $11,598 for a low block penalty he drew against the Ravens that was considered unnecessary roughness.
The play happened at the 13:26 mark of the fourth quarter of a thrilling Monday-night matchup against Baltimore.
This is the third time the Lions star safety has been fined this season. In Week 1, he was fined twice for $11,593 each for taunting (unsportsmanlike conduct) and a face mask penalty that happened on the same play.
Branch grabbed Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft’s helmet and tossed it during the Lions’ game at Lambeau Field.
St. Brown appears to have avoided a fine, not being included in the NFL’s Week 3 official announcement on Saturday, following a viral moment in last week’s game.
During the Lions’ victory, St. Brown was picked up on ABC/ESPN’s broadcast mic with a profanity-laced celebration following his fourth touchdown of the season.
An 18-yard pass from Jared Goff in the third quarter saw the game level at 21, following an extra point. And St. Brown’s excitement for making a big play as part of a seven-catch, 77-yard performance was broadcast for everyone to hear.
“(Expletive) is you talkin’ ‘bout? I run this (expletive),” St. Brown could be heard saying after the score.
After the game, St. Brown would apologize on “SportsCenter” during an interview with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt.
“Excuse my profanity,” St. Brown said with a smile. “SVP told me it was on TV. I’m sorry, guys. I was just excited, man. I think it was a big play in the game, a play we needed at that time. Big touchdown. I was just full of emotions, got a little excited.”
The Lions would go on to win the game, earning Detroit’s first win over the Ravens since Oct. 9, 2005, and its first-ever road victory against the franchise.
Earlier this week, a collaborative Instagram post with the official NFL on Fox and Fox Sports accounts included a graphic that stated St. Brown had received a $42,069 fine without including whether it was a prediction, joke or otherwise.
A league source confirmed to MLive that the graphic was inaccurate and St. Brown had not received a fine at the time.
