Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more. Fans of American Express Centurion Lounges are in luck, as Amex has opened its newest location at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). Leaving Utah's beauty behind isn't quite so bad if you get to visit the nearly 18,000-square-foot lounge on your way out — it features an outdoor terrace with mountain views, a hearth room with a fireplace and a recovery room where skiers and hikers (or tired travelers) can focus on wellness before boarding their flights. But not everyone can stroll into a Centurion Lounge, and even if you do have access, there are often long waits and guest fees. If you want to experience the lounge's unique amenities and a menu curated by James Beard award-winning chefs, you'll need to hold the right credit card and take certain measures to avoid long waits. Here's everything you need to know about this brand new lounge, including how to get in and what to expect once you're there. How to access the SLC Centurion Lounge The Centurion Lounge is located in Concourse B, by Gate 31. It's open daily from 4:45 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. MT. Note that you must be 18 years or older to get into the non-smoking space unless you're accompanied by an adult, and be 21 years old to drink alcoholic beverages. Hold the right credit card In order to access Centurion Lounges, including the one at the Salt Lake City Airport, you'll need to hold the right American Express credit card — and each comes with its own set of entrance rules and guest policies. Sign up for the digital waitlist Beware that access isn't guaranteed and is subject to availability. Although crowding issues have improved since American Express restricted Centurion guest access, there are often still long waits. I've had to wait to enter many Centurion Lounges, especially during peak periods. I've even waited in long lines for the buffet (the Centurion Lounge at Miami, I'm talking about you). After viewing this inviting new lounge, it's safe to say there will probably be long waits to enter. To increase the chances you'll get in without a hitch, make sure to join the digital waitlist for the new lounge space on the Amex app. Once you're in the app, head to the Membership tab, then Airport Lounge Access and click on the Centurion Salt Lake City option; then fill out your details. If space is available, you'll receive a QR code and have 10 minutes to enter. If not, you can join the waitlist and will be notified via text or email when a spot becomes available. What to expect at the SLC Centurion Lounge The SLC Centurion Lounge was designed with the surrounding Utah landscape in mind, featuring nature-inspired design elements and installations from local artists. Enjoy mountain views from floor-to-ceiling windows, admire textured artwork, and relax in comfortable, earth-toned armchairs. You can even gaze at a custom ceiling installation inspired by Utah's starry night sky, created by lighting designer Lindsey Adelman. Here's what else you'll find at the Salt Lake City Centurion Lounge. Warm and welcoming indoor spaces Utah's landscape is vast and sprawling, and the Centurion Lounge's open and wide spaces reflect that, complete with wheelchair-accessible ramps and wide walkways that are helpful for heavy luggage and strollers, too. The "wow" space is the hearth room, complete with a 360-degree fireplace and cozy sofa seating, an area that feels more like a mountain cabin than an airport lounge. You'll also find plenty of seating areas, including quiet workspaces, areas for larger groups, reservable meeting rooms and a VIP room for Centurion members. Inviting outdoor terrace Sip a cocktail or chat with friends to views of the Wasatch Mountains on the lounge's outdoor terrace, which features a bar, fireplace and comfortable seating. Dining and drinks All the food and drinks are curated by The Culinary Collective by The Centurion Lounge, a collection of James Beard® Award-winning Resy chefs, including Mashama Bailey, Sarah Grueneberg, Kwame Onwuachi and Mike Solomonov, as well as bar director Harrison Ginsberg. At the main buffet, you'll find items such as Caribbean wedding soup, paprika chicken, grilled corn and cucumber salad with avocado and cilantro salsa. If you're looking for something lighter, head to a snack nook that offers light bites and sweet treats. The bar in the aforementioned outdoor terrace has some locally-inspired cocktails, including the signature Park City Sling, made from gin, tart cherry and lemon. And when you need a pick-me-up, the Blue Roast by American Express feels like a quaint cafe with private booth seating, natural light and quiet areas to caffeinate while working on your laptop. Wellness and amenities You'll find all the typical Centurion Lounge amenities here, like private shower suites complete with Dyson hair dryers and L'Occitane products. If you need to work, you can use the free Wi-Fi and phone nooks where you can charge your devices. Besides the usual amenities, this Centurion Lounge also has a recovery room, where you can put on compression boots and treat sore muscles with massage guns. Top it off by indulging in some pre-flight healthy snacks. Subscribe to the CNBC Select Newsletter! Money matters — so make the most of it.
