Cheers echoed across American Canyon Middle School on Wednesday as students ran across a brand-new track, marking the official opening of the campus’s renovated athletic field funded through Napa Valley Unified School District’s Measure A2 bond. District and school leaders joined students for a ribbon-cutting ceremony recognizing one of the most visible Measure A2 projects to date. The $25 million bond, approved by American Canyon voters in 2022, funded facility upgrades across the city’s schools — including roof repairs, HVAC replacements and new public address systems — at American Canyon Middle, Canyon Oaks Elementary and Donaldson Way schools. (A separate $230 million bond for Napa schools passed in 2024.) “Where we once had holes and uneven surfaces, we now have a state-of-the-art, safe area utilized daily by our PE classes, sports teams, and hundreds of students during recess and lunch,” Principal Brian Howard said. Superintendent Rosanna Mucetti said the upgrades go beyond improving facilities, calling the project “about belonging” and “about students knowing that we care about them.”
