AMD Says That Intel-NVIDIA Partnership May Result In Increased Competition & Pricing Pressure But Confident In Its Ability To Compete

AMD seems to be on alert regarding the Intel-NVIDIA partnership, stating that it could affect their business, but they are ready to tackle all competition. AMD Is Confident In Their Ability To Compete Against Intel-NVIDIA Partnership, But May Have To Face Increased Pricing Pressure Back in September, Intel announced its partnership with NVIDIA in which the two chipmakers will collaborate on designing and building custom x86 chips for the data center and client segments. The multi-billion dollar deal would not only see NVIDIA leveraging Intel's x86 IPs for the development of custom CPUs for its data center / AI infrastructure, but also see the integration of NVIDIA's RTX GPU IP inside its x86 SoCs for PCs. Some questions were raised for Intel if they were going to end their own GPU IP roadmap in favor of NVIDIA's, but the company confirmed that their own GPU roadmap will remain unaffected & they will continue to develop their own products. The NVIDIA RTX IP will be used in a different class of SoCs to target AMD's Halo designs, such as the Ryzen AI MAX offerings, and more. In response to the Intel-NVIDIA partnership, AMD initially stated that they were confident in its own product lineup and would continue to provide disruptive technology. But in a recent statement, it looks like AMD has stated that the Intel-NVIDIA partnership will lead to increased competition and pricing pressure on their products. In a comment to CRN, AMD has stated that collaborations between its rivals, NVIDIA and Intel, could adversely affect their business. Following is the full statement: AMD cited the new tie-up under the filing’s section for economic and strategic risks as an example of strategic partnerships, acquisitions and business collaborations between its rivals that could “increase competition and adversely affect our business.” “This partnership may result in increased competition and pricing pressure for our products, which could materially adversely impact our business, financial condition and margins,” the company concluded in its discussion of the partnership. via CRN While AMD's concerns are legitimate, we have to understand that custom NVIDIA-Intel products are still years away. Products like the AMD Ryzen AI MAX series have been out for a while and deliver superb PC and workstation capabilities on mobile platforms. This is a segment where Intel wants to compete too, & they had plans with their Arrow Lake Halo family, but it was ultimately cancelled. Intel is expected to roll out its first Halo-class chips with Nova Lake-AX sometime in 2026-2027, while NVIDIA will have its own AI PC offering based on the N1 series SoCs out next year. As per our information, AMD is also working on a Strix Halo refresh for next year, and production is now in full ramp. AMD is expected to secure more platform wins, especially in the handheld segment, with new SKU options. A combined Intel and NVIDIA onslaught will put pressure, with NVIDIA providing its top-notch GPU IPs to Intel and Intel providing access to its advanced packaging and x86 IPs to NVIDIA, but AMD is positioned well to tackle this 2-front assault with its high-performance offerings with its next-gen offerings based on the Zen 6 architecture, and future RDNA architectures just around the corner.
