Kolkata: Ambassadors, High Commissioners and consular corps from across the globe soaked themselves in Durga Puja spirit and festivities in North Kolkata’s Chaltabagan Durga Puja, which portrayed the evolution of Bengal language and culture. The foreign delegation, which had representation from various parts of the globe, from UK, Estonia, France, Guatemala, Italy, Germany, Sri Lanka to Ukraine, was welcomed at the inauguration of the Puja Pandal by Sundeep Bhutoria, Chairman of the Chaltabagan Durga Puja Committee. “This is my first visit of Durga Puja but certainly not my last. The rhythm is engaging….it is a wonderful experience, and it is inclusive.,” Antonio Bartoli, Ambassador of Italy in India, said. Appreciating the experience at the advent of the festive season in Kolkata, Omar Castaneda Solares, Ambassador of Guatemala in India, said, “This is such a beautiful and amazing experience that has exceeded all my expectations. I will cherish this unique experience all my life.”The pandal brings to reality the entire evolution of Bengali language from its inception, language movement, significance of Bengali language globally, role of Bengali in Indian freedom struggle to tribute to Bengali reformer Vidyasagar’s ‘Barnaparichay” and Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Sahajpath’, two milestones in education.Live EventsThe main theme of the pandal is about the Bengali language, and it has been transformed into an art form. The theme traces Bengali language, its origin and evolution, all stages of development of the language, including ‘Charjapod’ 2000 years back, its ancient and modern forms- traversing the path of history. This forms the first part of the pandal of ‘Chaltabagan Sarbojonin’ and the theme is titled “Ami Banglay bolchhi” ( I am speaking in Bengali).“To walk from Shyambazar to Shobhabazar through its narrow lanes is a journey through the city’s soul. We invited the diplomatic corps to share this living archive with the world and experience the intangible heritage that UNESCO has recognised,” Bhutoria said. This year’s pandal has recreated the architectural soul of old North Kolkata, its culture, heritage buildings, grand havelis and intimate streetscapes. United Nations Information Centre-Director, Darrin Farrant, said, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s so thrilling to be there in Kolkata.”Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
