Amazon is planning to cut roughly 14,000 corporate jobs as the organization continues its spending on artificial intelligence while cutting costs in other places. The job cuts announced Tuesday are a roughly 4% reduction in Amazon’s corporate labor force. RELATED: Amazon plans to cut 15% of workforce in new round of layoffs Teams and workers impacted by the job cuts will be notified on Tuesday, and most employees will be given 90 days to search for a new position internally, the Associated Press reported, citing a letter to employees from Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon, wrote in a letter to employees on Tuesday. But individuals who can't find a new position at the company or who opt not to look for one will be provided with transitional support including severance pay, outplacement services and health insurance benefits. This latest round of job cuts is the largest at Amazon since 2023, when the organization slashed 27,000 positions. Amazon’s AI plans amid job cuts Why you should care: Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told the Associated Press in June that he anticipated generative AI would reduce Amazon’s corporate workforce in the next few years. Jassy also explained in June that Amazon had more than 1,000 generative AI services and applications in progress or built, but that figure was a "small fraction" of what it plans to build. RELATED: Amazon cuts hundreds of jobs in AWS cloud division The AP noted that he also encouraged workers to get on board with the company’s AI initiatives after it announced plans to invest $10 billion building a campus in North Carolina to expand its cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Has Amazon cut jobs in other departments this year? Dig deeper: In early October, Amazon cut about 15% of its human resources staff. Fortune reported that Amazon’s human resources division—known as PXT or the People eXperience Technology team—will be impacted by the job cuts. The exact number of employees losing their jobs hasn’t been disclosed. Amazon’s PXT division has over 10,000 employees, including a large recruiting team, technology staff, and other HR positions.
