FLORENCE — Plans for two new subdivision lots were recently approved for Florence County. The Florence County Planning Commission approved the plans at its Oct. 28 meeting. Both subdivisions will be just a few miles from Florence’s city limits. One subdivision is set to go in Quinby, a small town in Florence County, with the other off of East National Cemetery Road. Together, the lots will total nearly 400. Quinby’s subdivision will have 211 lots while. The other 182 lots will go off of East National Cemetery Road, southeast of city limits. It was only this past June when the commission approved sketch plans for West and East Florence to get 714 homes in two separate subdivisions. The newly-approved sketch plans only include lots and no homes. Deputy Director Ethan Brown told The Post and Courier that the lots will be developed and likely later sold to a party interested in constructing homes on them. Quinby subdivision The Quinby subdivision spans 57.57 acres of land that is adjacent to the city of Florence’s municipal boundaries, Planning and Building Director Shawn Brashear said at the meeting. Commissioners raised questions about the possibility of the subdivision being annexed into the city of Florence due to its location on the outskirts of town, but an engineer for the project said the subdivision has already been annexed into the town of Quinby. The development will be served by the city’s water and sewer, though. The roads in the subdivision will be counted as private and will not be maintained by Florence County, Brashear said. This subdivision is not the first sign of growth Quinby has seen this year. A 195 home subdivision near the intersection of East Ashby Road and Wildwood Drive was approved this January by the commission.
