Veteran Springbok centre, Damian de Allende, believes Saturday’s Rugby Championship decider against Argentina at Twickenham in London is the most important game of the year so far for the Green and Gold.
De Allende is getting ready to win his 93rd test cap for the Boks and feels that the team is on a strong footing ahead of what could prove to be a historic round six clash.
“The two time world champions are used to chasing down records, and their rematch against Argentina in round six of the Rugby Championship could see them cement their dominance in the regional tournament in the last two years. The prospect of back-to-back Rugby Championship titles makes Saturday’s showdown a pretty special outing for a player like Damian de Allende,” says De Allende.
He has described the this weekend as the most important game of the year.
“It will be a final for us. So, we will make sure we put a 100% focus into that and then a few of us have a couple of weeks off before end of year tour,” he adds.
The Springboks welcome back Ox Nche to the front row, and with formidable scrummagers throughout the Bok ranks, starting tighthead, Thomas du Toit, knows he can set a solid foundation before handing over to a behemoth like Wilco Louw on the bench.
Springbok Prop, Thomas Du Toit, says, “It is such a pleasure knowing that the guy that is going to come on is so destructive at scrum time and really carries himself well around the field. So, for me, knowing my purpose, knowing my ability for the first 45/50 minutes, however long it might be, it is brilliant for me. I am loving my role in the team and I am very grateful for the guys around me that also pull their part and make me feel comfortable in this team and in this position that I am in at the moment.”
Key to Saturday’s fixture in London is that travel was a breeze and the venue is very familiar to the Boks, according to De Allende.
Argentina opted to play round six in London, rather than travel back to Argentina, a move that suits the Boks just as much as it suits Los Pumas.
