But now the pendulum has swung the other way, with stars instead opting to reverse or tone down their procedures in favor of a more natural appearance. Alyssa Milano became the latest yesterday, revealing in an Instagram post that she was removing her breast implants, saying they had 'sexualize[d]' her body. She follows others like model Chrissy Teigen, who also had her breast implants removed after saying she was 'over it'. And stars Courteney Cox and Simon Cowell both had filler removed from their face amid concerns over their appearance, with Cowell saying he looked like 'something out a horror film.' While Kylie Jenner had the substance removed from her lips. The number of Americans going under the knife for plastic surgery operations has surged in recent years to 1.6million procedures annually in 2024, the highest since the 2.6million procedures done in 2019. For less invasive plastic surgery, Botox is the most popular, with 9.8million injections last year. Injectable fillers, which need to be redone every six to 18 months, come in second place, with 5.3million injections carried out in 2024. And among operations, breast implants, are among the most common, with 306,000 carried out last year, compared to 287,000 in 2019. Breast reductions have also risen, with 76,000 done in 2024 compared to 46,000 in 2019. Charmed actor Alyssa Milano became the latest celebrity to reveal that she was having her breast implants removed. She is pictured above in 2014 The number of people getting breast implant removals also rose from 33,000 in 2019 to 41,000 in 2024. Surgeons recommend patients have their implants removed after 10 to 15 years to minimize the risk of the implant rupturing or leaking into the body. There are no statistics about how many people get their filler dissolved, which is done using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This turns the filler into a liquid that the body can then absorb and drain away. Surgeons have said these figures match a trend they had seen in their clinics, with patients opting for a more natural appearance over the voluminous curves and dramatic shifts of the past. Dr Paul Fortes, a plastic surgeon in Texas, said on his website: 'Plastic surgery is changing and so are people's goals. These days, more and more patients are asking for results that look real, not overdone or obvious. 'Looking "refreshed" is the new standard. In the past, it wasn't unusual to see dramatic changes after surgery: Oversized breast implants, heavily filled lips or exaggerated curves. 'That approach isn't as popular anymore.' Below, DailyMail.com breaks down A-listers who have reversed the work of plastic surgeons in recent years: Courteney Cox Couretney Cox is pictured above in 2015, left, and in 2023 after getting her fillers dissolved. 'You don't realize that you look a little off,' she said, 'so then you keep doing more because you look normal to yourself. 'And you look in the mirror and go, "Oh, that looks good". You don't realize what it looks like to the outside person.' She added: 'I look at pictures of me when I thought I looked OK, and I can't believe it.' Cox revealed she had opted to have her fillers dissolved in 2017, after first getting the injections in the early 2000s to try to make herself appear younger. 'Now, I just embrace who I am and getting older with what God gave me,' she previously told People in 2019, 'not what I was trying to change'. They've been great to me for many years, but I'm just over it. 'I'd like to be able to zip a dress in my size, lay on my belly with pure comfort! No biggie!' Dr Karen Horton, a plastic surgeon in San Francisco, said previously to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons: 'Just like fashion, or makeup styles, preferences for women's breasts fluctuate. 'There was a stage where I might have gone a bit too far,' he said. 'I saw a picture of me from "before" the other day, and didn't recognize it as me first of all'. He also said his then eight-year-old son Eric would have 'hysterics' when he saw his father. 'Enough was enough', continued Cowell, 'There is no filler in my face at all now. Zero.' He has also been partial to Botox, with surgeons previously suggesting that he may have received the injections in the early 2010s. In a June 2024 episode of The Kardashians, she said: 'I went on a journey the last year, dissolving half my lip filler. She added: 'I hate even having this conversation over and over and over again because it feels like a waste of my breath because I think, with me, it's just never gonna change.' Her lips also appeared thinner in August 2024, after the star said she had half of her filler dissolved. Jenner has repeatedly said she is confident in her appearance, but has also been tearful on camera over others analyzing it.
