Paul Geaney was hailed a 'class act' after inspiring his club to their first county title in 77 years. Dingle defeated Austin Stacks by 2-13 to 2-12 on Sunday to claim the Kerry Senior Football Championship. Geaney, who suffered a hamstring injury in Dingle's semi-final win over Mid Kerry the previous weekend, scored two late goals to fire his club to victory. The West Kerry town lost the 2024 final to Dr Crokes, which was their third defeat in a decider since 2012, making the win all the sweeter. Many people took to social media to praise Geaney for his performance after the match. One person simply wrote: "Paul Geaney. Class act" Another commented: "Paul Geaney, old dog for the hard road. Unreal stuff." Someone else said: "Paul Geaney showing absolute class is permanent. Fabulous second goal. Congrats to Dingle." One other comment read: "Crazy to think that Kerry still won the All Ireland this year without Paul Geaney playing in the AI series. Still a top, top forward. That goal to seal the Kerry championship was vintage." Speaking after the match, the 34-year-old, who won his third All-Ireland medal with Kerry earlier this year, told of his joy after Dingle finally got over the line. He told RTE : "This is maybe our ninth major final as a club. This was our fourth county final. We had a Munster final against Castlehaven. We came out the wrong side of penalties. And we had four [Kerry] club finals as well. "So we felt as a group, we were underachieving a little bit. And we just had a confidence that today was going to be our day. So thanks be to God it happened." Dingle will now face the Limerick champions in the Munster Club Championship on November 23.
