STATEN ISLAND, NY — The College of Staten Island’s Drama Program will present “Alice in Slasherland,” a horror-comedy play that combines supernatural mayhem with teenage drama, from Nov. 14 through Nov. 17 at the Center for the Arts Lab Theatre. The production, written by award-winning playwright Qui Nguyen and directed by Lee Papa, tells the story of Lewis, an awkward high school student who accidentally resurrects a demon from hell. Lewis teams up with his best friend, Edgar, and a mysterious new student named Alice to battle demonic forces while navigating teenage life and preparing for prom night. “Alice in Slasherland is like a live-action anime crossed with a horror movie, offering tons of fights, humor and heart — and a talking demon teddy bear,” Papa said. The play blends horror movie tropes, fairy tales, and dark comedy into what’s described as a tribute to B-movies and pop culture. Nguyen’s script combines sharp humor with themes of friendship against a backdrop of supernatural chaos. CSI student Gary Fleming will play Lewis, with Skyyla Mark as Alice, and Ugonna-David Okeiche as Edgar. The cast also includes Nelie Ramos, Jasmine Gonzalez, Anthony Clausen, James Rodriguez, Nicholas DePalma and Autumn Phillips. Matthew J. Fick leads the creative team, handling set, lighting, costume, and projection design. The production team includes Mano Merca on sound design, Emma Ferguson on costume design, Christina Werkmeister as production manager. Austin Maida serves as projection designer, assistant director, and stage manager. Javan Zapata and Regan Sou will choreograph fight scenes. Performances will take place Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Lab Theatre at CSI’s Center for the Arts, 2800 Victory Blvd., Willowbrook. Tickets are available online at https://my-business-109038-100546.square.site/. The show is recommended for ages 16 and older due to gore, strong language, sexual references, and mature themes. The production is presented by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
