Ali plugs contribution of small countries to global development at FII summit

Small and medium sized countries contribute meaningfully to the development of the world and should not be ruled out based on population size, President Irfaan Ali said yesterday, adding that in Guyana’s case its carbon sink status is often downplayed although crucial to the lungs of the globe. “You must be able to compete in a global system,” President Ali underscored, during a round table discussion at 9th Edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII9) being held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With its oil resources, Guyana has the potential to be a model nation regardless of its small population, and this would be witnessed in the future, he posited, given the current solid foundation through investment in its people and tapping into global resources – from technology to investment platforms.
