Albox unites for equality with 5K run against gender violence

The town’s Carrera por la igualdad (race for equality) invites all ages to take part in a powerful show of solidarity against gender violence this November 23. Albox prepares to run for equality The Ayuntamiento de Albox and the Centro Municipal de Información a la Mujer (CMIM) have announced the Carrera por la Igualdad y Contra la Violencia de Género – a 5km charity run designed to promote equality and raise awareness about the ongoing fight against gender-based violence. The event will take place on November 23 at 11am, with participants setting off from Plaza Mayor in the heart of Albox. Organisers are inviting everyone – from professional runners to families and supporters – to take part, walk, or simply cheer from the sidelines. A message of unity through sport The race is part of a wider programme of activities leading up to the International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November). Through this initiative, the Town Hall and CMIM aim to highlight the importance of equality, respect, and community engagement in creating lasting social change. A spokesperson for the organisers said the event “is not just a race, but a symbol of collective strength – a way to say no to violence and yes to equality”. Participants who register early will also receive a free sports bag containing promotional material and local goodies. How to register Registrations are open until November 12 and can be completed in person at the Centro de la Mujer (Calle Ramon y Cajal, 23) or by email at cmimalbox@gmail.com. The event is open to all ages and free of charge, with the emphasis placed on community participation and shared values rather than competition. Organisers are encouraging residents to wear purple, the international colour of gender equality, and to share photos on social media using local campaign hashtags to help spread awareness. Together, Albox hopes to send a powerful message of solidarity, inclusion, and hope – one stride at a time. For more on what’s happening in Almeria read here.
