Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson Recovering After Serious Car Accident

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is recovering after being involved in a car accident.
“Somebody actually wasn’t paying attention and T-boned her on her road. They are always speeding on the road,” Thompson’s mom, Mama June Shannon, announced via Instagram on Friday, September 26.
“But looking at the 23-year-old boy, I have to give him credit with credit. I just do, he admitted that he was going 40 miles an hour and probably wasn’t paying attention,” Shannon, 46, continued. While Thompson, 20, is “fine,” her mom she’s still contending with a few “issues” following the accident.
“She was hit on the driver’s side of her car. It could have been a lot worse,” Shannon explained in the post. “She was took [sic] to the hospital. She does have back pain. She is having some headache issues.”
Shannon also offered a lengthy explanation in the post’s caption.
The day had been “a crazy day” since 3 o’clock, Shannon wrote via Instagram. She added that moments like accident are when she “hates” that “Alana Thompson is 23 hours away, but she is following her dreams.” Shannon also noted that receiving a phone call about a car accident was challenging as a mother, but, fortunately, Thompson will be okay.
She continued, “She is resting. It could’ve been a lot worse than it was. She is banged up a little bit but other than that she is OK [it was her] first car wreck. She was just going to go get her hair done and her phone call was to the police or second phone call was to her clinical director because tomorrow would’ve been her first day that she would’ve started clinicals and she still saying that she’s gonna get up in the morning and go we will see but headed to Denver to get her rental car get the car situation figured out and making sure that she is OK.”
Thompson is currently a student at Regis University, where she is pursuing a degree in nursing.
“I just always told myself you know that you want to do something better with your life and bigger with your life than just being on TV, so you’ve got to get up and go, you’ve got to graduate so you can make it to college and be the nurse that you want to be,” she told People in May 2025 of her decision to pursue higher education.
Thompson also revealed that despite growing up on reality TV, when it was time for her to begin school she found out that paying for her degree might be a challenge. At one point, Shannon took $35,000 of Thompson’s Dancing With the Stars earnings — an amount she has since paid back, but without an apology.
Eventually Thompson forgave her mom, which “was hard, but at the end of the day, she’s my mom.”
“When she was bad in her addiction, I just kept thinking about the day she’d recover,” she continued. “We’re going pretty good. Hopefully it lasts. I just no longer have any expectations for her.”
