Akpabio appoints Anietie Ukpe as Deputy Chief of Staff

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has approved the appointment of renowned communication scholar and media strategist, Dr. Anietie John Ukpe, as Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) in the Office of the President of the Senate, with effect from November 1, 2025. The appointment, formally conveyed through the Directorate of Human Resources and Staff Development of the National Assembly, Abuja, is seen as part of Senator Akpabio’s strategic move to strengthen the Research, Strategy, and Communication capacity of his office for enhanced legislative efficiency and institutional growth. Dr. Ukpe, who currently heads the Research and Speech Communication Unit in the Senate President’s Office, brings to the new role over three decades of professional experience spanning broadcast journalism, public relations, advertising, strategic communication, and leadership development. A Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ukpe holds a Doctorate in Business and Organizational Communication and previously served as Director General of the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), where he distinguished himself as a reform-driven media administrator. Beyond the newsroom, Dr. Ukpe is an accomplished writer, leadership mentor, and ordained minister, who has delivered keynote lectures and training sessions on communication ethics, public service values, and youth leadership across Nigeria and beyond. In his new capacity as Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Ukpe is expected to provide strategic advisory support, coordinate communication frameworks, and strengthen policy articulation and inter-institutional relations within the Senate President’s Office.
