Aisha Gaban, UK’s First Bot News Anchor, Asks The Question Everyone’s Thinking: ‘Will AI Take My Job?’ | Video

Imagine watching an entire TV programme only to find out that the person speaking to you wasn’t even real. That’s exactly what happened when Channel 4’s Dispatches aired its latest special titled Will AI Take My Job. The episode explored the impact of artificial intelligence in workplaces across industries like fashion, law and medicine. But the biggest surprise came right at the end. Any guesses? The show’s own presenter, Aisha Gaban, was not human at all, but a completely AI-generated news anchor. In a snippet from the programme that has now been going viral on X, the digital presenter says, “AI is going to touch everybody’s lives in the next few years. And for some, it will take their jobs. Call centre workers? Customer service agents? Maybe even TV presenters like me. Because I’m not real.” Did you notice anything different? This is Britain’s first-ever AI TV presenter in a documentary. Viewers were kept in the dark until the very end. It’s part of a stunt aiming to show just how convincing AI has become, and how quickly it’s improving. pic.twitter.com/APfH4ge3U6 — Channel 4 Dispatches (@C4Dispatches) October 20, 2025 ‘I Wasn’t Reporting This Story’ As the video proceeded, Aisha explained that her image and voice were generated using artificial intelligence, a first in British television history. She added, “Some of you might have guessed: I wasn’t on location reporting this story. My image and voice were generated using AI.” The twist was aimed at sparking debate about trust, authenticity and the role of technology in the media landscape, but Channel 4 was quick to clarify that this was a one-time experiment. In a statement, Louisa Compton, Head of News and Current Affairs at the channel, said, “The use of an AI presenter is not something we will be making a habit of. Our focus is on premium, fact-checked, duly impartial and trusted journalism — something AI is not capable of doing.” “Is AI Really Taking Over Our Jobs?” But the Internet was already flooded with reactions till then. While some were amazed, others found it terrifying. One user wrote, “I watched some of the show and didn’t notice. Very good trick.” Another commented, “Yes, I guessed. The shots were too neatly framed, her diction was a bit off & there was a massive clue in her name!” Someone else pointed out, “AI will be a disaster for humanity. It’s bad enough now that people don’t know facts and in a sinister way it will be used for misinformation. As well as put people out of work.” “How is this something to be pride of?” read a comment While it could be both a chilling warning or a clever experiment, Channel 4’s AI presenter has definitely got people talking.
