Airline Will Furlough One-Third of Its Flight Attendants

Spirit Airlines will furlough one-third of its flight attendants as part of a process to align their staffing with their fleet size, a company spokesperson told Newsweek in an emailed statement Monday.
Roughly 1,800 flight attendants will be furloughed starting December 1 of this year, according to the statement.
There are currently about 5,200 flight attendants employed by the airline, which offers affordable travel to over 75 destinations across North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
“We recognize the impact of this decision on affected Team Members, and we are committed to treating them with care and respect during this process,” the statement emailed to Newsweek said.
The announcement comes just days after the airline said it would reduce capacity by 25 percent starting in November.
