Aaron Taylor-Sinclair guided Airdrie to their first win of the season in the Championship and says the league’s bottom side must now build on it. The Diamonds caretaker boss has taken charge of the team in the aftermath of Danny Lennon’s sacking last week and has maintained his unbeaten record, having overseen a 1-1 draw against Queen’s Park the last time he took the reins in August when Rhys McCabe left the club. A first half penalty from Euan Henderson was enough to earn Airdrie all three points in Saturday’s clash at home to Arbroath, and Sinclair hopes they can take confidence from that when they travel to league leaders St Johnstone on Saturday. He said: “It is definitely a result for us to try and build on. It has been a tough week for the boys, going into a third game in seven days. “On Friday there, that was their only training session of the week and they had to take on a lot of information, so I thought they did really well, especially in the first half. “We just told them to go out and play with a bit of freedom. “Watching from the side recently, I felt they’ve been playing a bit within themselves and a bit restricted, so it was about playing with freedom and going back to how they are used to playing. “I had full confidence in Hendo stepping up. He practices his penalties every day so I was confident. “Chris Mochrie went through for a second goal and nine times out fo 10 he finishes it. But it was just one of those where the keeper made a decent save. Two nil would have made it a lot more comfortable for us.” He added: “Hendo was saying he scored in the last game I was in charge of as well, so [being unbeaten] is a good record to have. “Hopefully we can keep it going next week. The games don’t get much harder than St Johnstone in the Championship, but we are looking forward to that one.” Having waited 11 games to taste success, Taylor-Sinclair said he would be making sure his players enjoyed that winning feeling. He added: “I said to the boys they’ve got to go and enjoy victories, so I’m sure they will do that and get ready for the next game. “All you can ask for is putting that fight and desire into a game. All the subs that came on did well as well.” Man of the match Cole McKinnon said: “It is our first three points of the season so it was always going to be a massive win. The way we saw the game out was really good as well. “It was just about getting that first win. We’ve got a couple of hard games coming up now, but these are the games you want to play in. “We are a really good footballing side and we back ourselves against anyone in this league.” Meanwhile, goalkeeper Matty Connelly has been recalled by parent club Motherwell on an emergency loan basis. The Steelmen have been dealt a blow after No.1 Aston Oxborough picked up an injury in Saturday's Premiership win over Livingston and they have now drafted in Connelly ahead of tomorrow night's league clash at home to Dundee United.
