Aimee Lou Wood has described the moment Angelina Jolie backed her up during a chaotic moment on set. The White Lotus star acts opposite Angelina in upcoming dark comedy Anxious People, playing a reluctant bank robber who inadvertently takes a group of strangers hostage during an open house. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Aimee recalled that while she was filming a particularly emotional scene in the movie, she became overwhelmed after multiple crew members began shouting different instructions at her. Instead of trying to quietly navigate the stressful situation so as not to appear difficult, she advocated for herself, and asked for one clear direction and no hand movements in her line of vision – a decision that was supported by co-star Angelina. She explained: “I’ve spent years feeling unable to say anything like that for fear of seeming argumentative. But now I feel like I can take ownership of what I need to thrive, and tell people what won’t work for me.” “When I spoke up, all I could see was Angelina giving me a thumbs up,” Aimee shared. “She’s possibly the most famous woman ever, but she’s so normal.” The Bafta winner previously spoke about breaking the pattern of internalising unkind comments about herself in order to be liked, criticising a mean-spirited Saturday Night Live sketch that made fun of her teeth, which she compared to standing up to her school bullies. After initially rising to prominence in Sex Education, Aimee was thrust even further into the spotlight after appearing in season three of the massively popular drama The White Lotus, which in turn attracted comments about her appearance as well as her standout performance in the show. Speaking of The White Lotus, while Aimee won’t be returning, fans reckon one cast member will be checking in again for the next season, which will be set in France. While it looks like it’s business as usual when it comes to the beautiful locations the drama has become known for, the creators look set to shake things up as they’ve reportedly cut ties with their longstanding partnership with the Four Seasons hotel chain. Meanwhile Aimee is next set to appear in the upcoming Beatles biopics directed by Sam Mendes.
