AIADMK functionary’s wife murdered in Coimbatore district; driver surrenders

A 46-year-old woman was found murdered at her residence at NAM Nagar at Dhaliyur, near Pannimadai, in Coimbatore district on Tuesday. The police said that S. Maheshwari, wife of AIADMK functionary Saravana Kumar aka Kavi Saravanan, who is a former president of Pannimadai panchayat, was found stabbed to death. M. Suresh, 49, of Arivu Nagar at Dhaliyur, who had been working as a driver for the family for 15 years, surrendered at Vadavalli police station, claiming responsibility for the murder. According to the police, Maheshwari and Kumar had been living separately for the past five months. Suresh continued to work for the family and assisted the deceased with household activities during the period. The police said that Suresh met Kumar on Tuesday noon at Vadavalli and confessed that he murdered Maheshwari. Kumar took Suresh to Vadavalli police station, where he surrendered. After being alerted about the incident, a team from Thadagam police station rushed to the house at NAM Nagar and found Maheshwari dead, lying in a pool of blood on the hall. Suresh told the police that Maheshwari often questioned him about her husband’s alleged relationship with other women and accused him of being responsible for it. Suresh claimed that he stabbed her with a kitchen knife, after facing humiliating comments from her around 11.30 a.m. Fingerprint experts and scientific officers examined the scene of crime. The police also collected visuals from surveillance cameras in the locality for analysis. The woman’s body was shifted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan said a scientific investigation is on into the murder, covering all aspects.
