An AI-based Kashmiri adaptation of Christopher Marlowe’s classic ‘Doctor Faustus’ captivated a packed audience at Srinagar’s Tagore Hall. The play, translated into Kashmiri by eminent scholar and poet Prof. G.N. Firaq, was dramatized by renowned theatre personality Dr. Sohan Lal Koul and directed by Altaf Hussain, who also performed in the production. Organized by the Young Dramatists Society Group under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the event drew enthusiastic participation from students of schools, colleges, and universities.Blending technology with tradition, the production showcased how artificial intelligence can enhance stage storytelling while retaining the emotional and moral essence of Marlowe’s masterpiece. The Kashmiri version highlighted the eternal conflict between ambition and morality, brought alive through expressive performances and innovative stagecraft. The play not only reaffirmed the vitality of Kashmiri theatre but also served as a bridge between classical literature and contemporary innovation—reviving interest among young audiences in cultural and theatrical heritage.
