Again, Dozens of Students Suffer Poisoning After Consuming Free Nutritious Meal

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Cases of suspected poisoning from the free nutritious meal (MBG) in Indonesia have occurred again. This time, dozens of students from the State Junior High School (SMPN) 1 Wedi, Klaten Regency, Central Java, experienced poisoning symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and vomiting after consuming the MBG menu at their school on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.The Head of the Klaten District Health Office, Anggit Budiarto, confirmed the incident. According to the reports he received, a total of 13 students experienced poisoning symptoms out of 351 students who received the MBG.”The data shows that 13 out of the total 351 students who received the benefits of the MBG on Wednesday,” said Anggit to journalists.He mentioned the poisoning symptoms experienced by the students including nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and fatigue due to fluid deficiency or dehydration. The students who experienced poisoning symptoms were taken to the Wedi Community Health Center, while some were referred to the hospital.”Two have been discharged, three are under observation, and eight have been referred to the Bagas Waras Hospital,” he said.Anggit stated that to determine the cause of the poisoning, the local Health Office has taken samples of the MBG. The samples include rice, side dishes, vegetables, fruits, and milk.”We took samples from the food served to be sent to the laboratory to determine the cause of the poisoning,” he explained.Currently, the Klaten Health Office has set up a health post at the Wedi Community Health Center, which will operate 24 hours a day for the next few days. This is to monitor the progress and anticipate if there are still similar symptoms.The Wedi Sub-district Head, Widaya, said that they immediately checked on SMPN 1 Wedi and the Community Health Center after receiving the report.”For the time being, we only received reports from this one school, there were no reports from others,” he said.From the information he received, Widaya revealed that the MBG menu was obtained by the students from the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Sembung Village. He mentioned that officers from the Klaten District Police have visited the SPPG for an investigation.”The Klaten District Police have also been to the location (SPPG) for examination,” he said.Widaya explained that the MBG menu at SMPN 1 Wedi was provided in two shifts, for morning and afternoon. For the morning shift, the MBG menu had been provided to 384 students.
