Nearly three weeks after Rahul Dravid left his position as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals (RR), another India legend has left his top job at another IPL franchise. Zaheer Khan has reportedly quit as the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The veteran pacer joined the Lucknow-based franchise before IPL 2025 on a two-year contract. He worked along with heach coach, Justin Langer, and other members of the backroom staff. However, his stint ended after just one season. ESPNcricinfo has reported that Zaheer’s vision for the franchise didn’t align with that of team owner Sanjiv Goenka and Langer. LSG only managed 6 wins in 14 matches and finished seventh in the IPL 2025 points table. They created history at the IPL 2025 mega-auction by signing Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, but couldn’t make it to the second round. Pant only managed one century in the season and finished with 269 runs in 3 innings. It remains to be seen whether LSG make a change in captaincy or not. They are unlikely to release their captain ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction.
