Land Rover Range Rover in the top Autobiography trim
Kristin Shaw
The 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography can’t help but stand out. Its profile is distinct and familiar, yet modern, and the ride is cushioned with a velvet-glove suspension that guards a robust steel chassis. It’s powered by a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 making 523 horses and 553 lb-ft of torque, and it doesn’t falter when you press the accelerator.
Even at nearly three tons, the Range Rover is a ballerina. It pivots and turns surely and confidently on neat asphalt roads and is just as capable on dirt and rocky trails, which is part of what makes this SUV special. Even at the base trim, a Range Rover includes everything you need for you and your adventurous clan. I highly recommend getting it dirty, because although the Rover cuts an elegant figure on the road, its DNA is made for going head to head with tougher terrain.

The Range Rover’s Rich And Royal History
The Land Rover name debuted in 1948 at the Amsterdam Motor Show under the Rover brand. However, the automaker really bloomed in 1978, when Land Rover Limited became its own company. I’m partial to the 1961 Series II, personally, and with a sprightly yellow 1966 Series IIA a friend of mine drives around.
Full disclosure, there’s a 2000 Range Rover in my garage that my husband bought in 2003, and we had a Land Rover LR4 for a decade before we sold it last year. We’re Rover people and we’ve seen the company through several major company shifts through the years, but one thing remains constant: this brand makes tough, capable SUVs that are good enough for a queen.
MORE FOR YOU
The Queen’s collection of classic Rovers.
It’s true that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth, before her death in 2022, owned dozens of Land Rovers over the last several decades. In fact, Land Rover sent 10 special examples on tour in 2024, and only four events were staged in the U.S. One of those stops was at Monterey Car Week, and expert Land Rover off-roaders and rally competitors Jenna Fribley and Liza Beres piloted the Queen’s former Series I onto the green.
At The Top Of The Food Chain: Range Rover Autobiography
At the top of the Range Rover lineup, the Autobiography trim is equipped with all of the niceties for a comfortable and durable ride. It’s available with a regular or extended wheelbase, which adds a third row of seating, and rides on 22-inch wheels unless you opt for the 23-inch upgrade.
The Range Rover Autobiography includes retractable handles.

Also included on the Range Rover Autobiography is sound-reducing front and side window glass, a crisp digital rearview mirror, an air purification system (that will come in handy during allergy season in Austin), four-zone climate control, ventilated and heated front and rear seats, upgraded leather upholstery, a jaw-dropping 35-speaker Meridian premium audio system, a rear-seat entertainment setup, head-up display, automated parking system, power rear sunshades. It also includes a feature I loved in my LR4: a front console cooler.
Starting at about $168,000, a host of upgrades are available for the Range Rover even at Autobiography level. Is it worth it? Close your eyes and throw up a little prayer to the late Queen. I’m sure she’d say yes.
